RE/MAX contributes to racers' "I'm a Survivor" pink tee-shirts, caps, "In Honor of" and "In Memory of" back-signs, and program banners for each race. RE/MAX Associates who are breast cancer survivors or who have been otherwise affected by the disease are encouraged to solicit fund-raising pledges for their own participation in the events. Corporate representatives will host Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition tents at the races. |
The facts about breast cancer During the 1990s, about 1.8 million women and 12,000 men were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This year, an estimated 182,800 women and 1,400 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. About 40,000 women and 400 men will die of breast cancer this year. Breast cancer is the leading cancer among American women and is second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths. When breast cancer is confined to the breast, the five-year survival rate is more than 95 percent. |

Komen's Survivor Recognition Program celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. RE/MAX shares sponsorship of the 2003 program with Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, a nonprofit volunteer organization.
